07. Ignatius Chin

Principle Consultant – Ignatius is an energy market practitioner with over 20 years’ experience covering the Australian National Electricity Market (NEM), Western Australia’s Wholesale Electricity Market (WEM), and the North West Interconnected System of Western Australia (NWIS).  He is well-versed on energy market design, generation business operations, market policy and regulatory matters, energy commercial negotiations, energy trading and energy procurement.

Career Summary

Ignatius started his career in the energy sector as an electrical engineer.  Since then, he has undertaken various roles in the energy industry including those in energy trading, strategy analysis, financial modelling, energy procurement and policy and regulatory advice.

Some of his previous key roles includes: commercial and regulatory advisor to the CEO at Bluewaters Power (a JV of Sumitomo and Kansai Electric), Senior Advisor at the Australian Energy Market Commission (AEMC), Assistant Director (Electricity Market Surveillance) at the Economic Regulation Authority (ERA), energy procurement specialist at the Fortescue Metals Group and energy trader and strategy analyst at various organisations in the NEM and WEM.

Ignatius has authored a number of high impact submissions and policy papers in the WEM and the NEM, through which he has played key roles in shaping the energy policies in these markets.
